Katheryn Howard: The Tainted Queen by Alison Weir
4.0
I'm not blind to the faults of this book. I was a bit confused as to why Katheryn was made older than she was and a lot of the more graphic scenes are essentially Tudor Mills and Boon soft porn and not terribly well written at that, but having said all that I still enjoyed it. I felt sorry for all of Henry's Queens, even Anne Boleyn who sort of brought her downfall on herself but who was at least an adult who could make her own choices. I think I feel worst for Katheryn though; she was a child who was sexually abused and then essentially executed for it by a tyrant who, let's face it, very likely couldn't get it up and who blamed this on women. She was sixteen when they were married and he was fifty. That's gross however you look at it. To have her executed was a massive injustice however at least there's a fair amount of evidence that she actually was unfaithful, unlike Anne Boleyn who it seems the majority of historians believe was innocent.
The whole thing makes me very cross. She was naive and being manipulated by the Duke of Norfolk and others, and what a piece of shit he was. Absolutely disgusting man. Anyway you can see from my anger that this book riled me up so at least it made me feel some type of emotion. I will of course read the last book on Katherine Parr.
