Was this the best book to read when I’m a pessimistic hypochondriac in the middle of a pandemic? Probably not. Do I regret it? Not at ALL.

This book was just so wonderfully written—and the idea of a traveling Shakespeare / orchestra in the wake of the end of the world as we know it—hauntingly beautiful, deeply upsetting and tragic, and altogether just overwhelmingly human. This book made me weep.

The connections made to the pre- and post- flu world were expertly crafted, the characters well fleshed out, and the overall story was captivating. I’ll be reading anything this author puts out.
