The Paper Palace was a real masterpiece, a very clearly award winning book. It delves so deeply into relationships, loss, family, guilt, love, and so much more, in such a beautiful way. I really enjoyed the format of the story being told over only 24 hours, but with a huge amount of flashbacks - way more than I was expecting, but not in a bad way.

The characters were all very well developed and explored, as we learn their backgrounds and the relationships between each character, their histories. Every emotion is felt during the story, with some really beautiful writing to explore them.

Most of the chapters do stop quite suddenly, often leaving you on a cliffhanger not knowing what actually happened, and having to piece some elements of the story together, with the best example of this being the very final chapter. It could feel a little disjointed at times but I do think it added to the story and my engagement with it.

Overall, a very well written book with some beautiful writing and themes. Understandably award winning.
