I went into this book with high hopes. Unfortunately my expectations were not met. I loved the chill plot but no plot vibe this book had, but it just wasn’t enticing. I think I understand that the author was trying to demonstrate that real people in real relationships don’t always work out in this perfectly fluid way, and I really appreciated that aspect of the book. The characters definitely felt real, and the way they thought, acted, and deliberated was very honest and realistic. I liked that every character was a little flawed and a little bit broken. In general, I really liked how honest and intimate the writing style felt. I found almost the entire reading experience to be increasingly off-putting and uncomfortable. Interestingly, there seems to be no comfort given to the reader. The chapters have huge gaps of time in between them, with the blanks getting half-filled in throughout each chapter, so that I was always left feeling disconcerted. It is a really short book yet I felt like I was dragging through the book cause it felt so slow. The characters were meh, it was interesting to see the dialogue amongst them but really I couldn’t care less. Tbh I only read to the end to find out what happens with Collen and Marianne, and the ending was okay.
