The Family Next Door by Sally Hepworth

This was fine! I was reading this book thanks to my library’s recommendation system, and it definitely delivered on the Big Little Lies-esque suburban drama.

I enjoyed Fran and Ange’s side stories, but found the author’s portrayal of women with mental illness to be under explained. There were few actual moments with the women experiencing episodes, but lots of hand-wringing about “them not being well,” something I felt was never clearly defined.

However, because of this fact, you’re rushing through the chapters to get to something that explains Essie’s condition. This means it is a great book for anyone trying to end a reading slump, as you will definitely get a couple of late nights with this one.
