Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett
5.0
I think it's funnier to see Godot as a simple man. Not God, meaning or... communism, but just a man. And if he's a man, the meaning of the play doesn't change much, they're still stuck in a perpetual state of agony, because they await for something that will not arrive.
They wait for Godot because they see in his wait some sort of purpose but do not have a plan for when he will arrive. But this state of affairs is clearly not productive and may actually be a gigantic waste of time. Since they do not expect to gain anything from him anyway, which they clearly confirm when they imply not to know who Godot even is, why not just leave? Why not shake the formula at least? Try something new?
But no, the play wastes our time. And I wouldn't have it any other way.
