To Sir Phillip, With Love by Julia Quinn

1.75

1.75 stars?

Disappointing really. Eloise was by far my favourite sibling but her love story was... not.

Where do I begin... it did not start off terrible, I guess. But as Philip kept talking about how shitty of a father he was, and about how marrying Eloise could somehow fix everything since he wouldn’t be so shitty because the kids would have a ‘good mother.’

WTF mate. That’s not how things work. He wasn’t willing to put the effort in, he would keep avoiding them because of his daddy issues. He never saw the problem with this and thought marrying a woman who would be a good mother would make HIM father of the year. When will men stop trying to steal women’s achievements?

One of the biggest problems for me:
In the end, Eloise goes to find Philip and he’s alone with Marina’s portrait being reflective or whatever. This toxic ass man, with his whole chest, fully says: “never complain to me about our relationship or say that we have a problem because this is nowhere near as bad as my marriage with Marina.”
I abhor this scene. The audacity- the fucken AUDACITY- how dare you you selfish little prick. Yes, Marina’s depression put a damper on your relationship but you have to separate the two. The marriage with one is not like the other, it is okay to acknowledge that there are problems, the magnitude did not have to equate to the problems you had with Marina, but you must acknowledge whatever the little problem is to fix it. Eloise is not Marina, and marriage isn’t just do your job in the day and fuçk me all night.
Anyways, how dare he tell Eloise to never complain or talk of any problems between them.

Also, yes he doesn’t abuse his children (besides neglect :/) but am I supposed to give him brownie points for that
