The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster

5.0

Written in 1961 and still completely loveable and relevant today. Boys and girls will both like this book. Even as an adult, it challenged my mind with fantastically whimsical word plays and painted Alice in Wonderland like images in my mind. It takes several rereads to catch all the cleverness in it. I love what it's trying to teach as well, which is why I think it's particularly relevant in a world filled with devices that do a lot of thinking for us. Kids today are entertained by TV, Computer, and video games. This book reminds us to think! and use our imagination- that understanding words and numbers without the help of technology is vital and fun.
