“‘But...you hate him,’ Mom said.
‘No, I... I don’t. I mean. Sometimes I do, kinda. But mostly I...love him. Actually.’”

Absolutely no rivals-to-lovers book will ever top this one. Holy crap.

I’ll admit I was nervous when they were already sleeping together in the prologue, but fear not: wonderful, glorious angst is still to come.

From all accounts, Shane and Ilya are each other’s number 1 adversary, from competing for the gold in the Olympics, to their NHL teams’ long-term animosity towards the other. And the media constantly comparing them to each other doesn’t help at all.

That doesn’t stop them from wanting to tear each other’s clothes off though, thankfully.

I loved the pacing of this book. It takes place over seven years but those years don’t drag. The buildup of their feelings is slow but very strong. There’s obvious chemistry during their first meeting but there’s definitely no insta-love in this story. By the time they realize their feelings it’s pretty much inevitable.

I adored this. I was initially turned off by the third person POV but the book was written so well that it barely phased me after a few chapters. There is also so much dry humor in this book, I was struggling to breathe at one point. I just wasn’t expecting it, but Shane and especially Ilya are super freaking funny. The romance though, ugh, so good. I love them so much. Immediately tuning into the sequel now. BRB.
