Voyage of the Damned by Frances White

emotional mysterious medium-paced

5.0

What if we set an Agatha Christie murder mystery on a ship, set in a fantasy world where every country has a symbolic animal, and it was also soft and gay and emotional? I don't know how the author come up with this idea, but it was absolutely perfect.

Ganymedes is a complex character, he's kind of an asshole to everyone, but when you meet the other country's representatives, you can fully understand why. When people started being brutally murdered, I couldn't guess who was going to be next, and it made the story weirdly fun.

Although the story got a bit messy towards the end, I loved the characters so much by that point I didn't even care, I was just there to have a good time. I did find myself wishing this wasn't a standalone novel, as I would love to see the world expanded on.
