Trondheim by Cormac James
4.0
A complicated, nuanced character portrait of a couple as they wait to see if their son will wake up from a coma after a heart attack. It could easily veer into melodrama, but James never takes the easy option out. The characterizations of Alba and Lil are both great with a lot of tension simmering under the surface. The novel is less successful when it veers away from them. Wish the ending offered more resolution.
