White Tears / Brown Scars: How White Feminism Betrays Women of Color by Ruby Hamad

adventurous challenging informative reflective medium-paced

This should be required reading. I read this via audiobook from the library - will be picking this up. She balances the personal stories (including ones from other WOC) with wider cultural examples from The Hunger Games casting to BBQ Becky AND historical context all across the world. There is centering of Australia and the US but she also discusses Nigeria, Syria, Brazil, Canada, the U.K., Egypt, Palestine, India and south many more places. She also cites so many people I am exploring right now like Edward Said and bell hooks so that is exciting personally.
