I can see why, if you're waiting for new releases of this series year by year, this book about a horse girl might be disappointing. Luckily for me I'm binging until I catch up, and I found that while this book wasn't the strongest, I really liked Regan, and the world she found herself in was a little akin to Narnia, so there was a sense of familiarity.
Six books in, I have no idea if we've ever met Regan before, and introducing a brand new character that at the moment seems unconnected to the people we know seems odd, but I'm trusting that she'll come back up again in the future. Unless this is the Wayward equivalent of The Horse And His Boy which... huh.
The ending was very silly, but this world is very silly, and it truly fit the vibe the rest of the book had. I loved the centaur family Regan found for herself, and it was really cool to see an intersex character in a story. I think I could probably cope without seeing the Hooflands ever again though, even if there are Kelpies.
