I have such fondness for this book. This is a re-read for me and I still love this book. It's a classic that has stood the test of time for almost 88 years.

I find the characters in the book very charming. I always felt a wee bit sorry for Bilbo because he just wanted to be at home in his wee Hobbit Hole enjoying a quiet life. I get that. Instead he's thrown into the throng with Thorin Oakenshield and his Dwarf colleagues. I like the Dwarves, they're charming. Gandalf is alright but he could be a wee bit rude at times. All side characters were great.

The story was just lovely. Yes I know there's battles and peril but it's just so charming. I'm sorry for the excessive use of this word but there really is nothing else I can say to describe it. It keeps the reader engaged and turning the page to see what Bilbo and his friends will do next.

The book is told in the style of a narrator. No specific POVs from the characters. It worked for this book.

If you've never read this then I cannot recommend it enough. It's a timeless classic and will always be worth a read.
