While I really love the movie, I think the books just aren't for me. 

I found the pacing pretty slow overall, and while most of it read pretty close to what they did with the movie, there were some differences I didn't really enjoy. Eleanor especially was completely different from what I was expecting; the tough as nails, calm, collected and calculating woman is replaced by someone who is shrieking about the shame of her son dating a nobody (in the first 100 pages anyway, maybe that changes later but I don't have the patience to find out). I had fun with the movie version of Eleanor and I missed that while reading.
