An interesting classic, just not what I was expecting. I think I was imagining a Haunted House or even Jane Eyre-type book. But it did not have the haunted/atmospheric horror type book I was expecting. In fact, as I was reading it, I was thinking it was more like Parade's End. I wished there was more atmosphere and that I enjoyed the main character more ... I found she was the definition of a 'silly chit'. But it was interesting to read, unusual and a mystery was engaging. The house was as very present in the book, but not as richly as I wanted. Very well written and I thought the biggest strength was how solid character Rebecca was considering she is just a memory. But it is a very aptly named book.
