This Book Is Gay (Revised and Updated) by Juno Dawson
5.0
This book is gay is a witty light heart look at LGBT for those in the middle (as it says at 11 we are learning about the birds and bees) to the high school level. Covering everything about what the LGBT is too basic of what it means. Banishing stereotypes (unless you want to be one- this book is all-inclusive)
Covering the basics of a basic (okay what should be) sex ed but with a queer perspective The biggest thing to consider is safety, both in just being yourself and just being safe in the sex scene- say hello to condoms, please use protection kiddos.
If one does not know, in the USA as of 2022 in some states, this book is challenged/removed from school libraries due to at least one reason, for being pornographic. The main issue is well, the butt sex stuff. But I am in the camp that that, and the rest of the book is needed now more than ever because of the needless 'protect the children or 'let children be children when in fact kids are just being them- and at times they are sexual beings. As the book says, hello hormones (and not just those wanting to take cross-sex hormones) Just thought I'll add this because this book, as an adult reading it, would have felt like being queer was normal. And actually know what in the world aspects of life were truly like in an honest way. My experience with them queers was that "there are people that are homosexual" and that covered it.
Back to the book. There are cute cartoons. Witty language. Humor glare about and all and all an engaging text that makes you want to learn. Or should I say, encourage you in an exciting way to not only understand LGBT but make you feel like the true nature of it is that it is just a variation of human sexuality (or gender identity)
Must read for all the queer (and straight) folk.
