I'm Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy
emotional
5.0
This book is so incredible and absolutely devastating. It is beautifully written and truly shows the struggles that she went through as a child actor and a victim of her circumstances and mother. It took me a bit longer than expected to read because it is very graphic about her eating disorders which was triggering to read, but I still think it’s an important story to tell. Child actors go through a lot of horrible things and it’s important to talk about them to try and improve the conditions they go through along with showing the abuse from both the directors/producers and frequently the parents of these child actors. I am glad that Jennette is trying to recover and is in therapy. it is very inspiring to read about how although things got bad, she was able to accept that she needed help and actually take the steps to recover. She also discusses how recovery isn’t linear and how that is okay also. Sometimes slips happen, but they don’t have to be slides.
