The Good Liar by C.P. Harris
5.0
5 ⭐️
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️.5/5
Format: ebook
“The truth was, if it wasn’t Daniel getting the scraps of me, it would’ve been someone else, because my heart wasn’t whole. I’d left the other half of it back in Seattle, and now it was here, right in front of me, staring into me as if nothing could keep us apart. Not even my vows.”
C.P. Harris books are fun because part of you is like, “Wow, I believe in love again,” and another part of you is like, “Wow, that character consumes a lot of male ejaculate.” This is only my second of her books but those thoughts were strong with both, and I’ve already been warned about the fry “sauce” in The Fishermen…
Anyways, onto the real stuff. I devoured this book. I could not get enough of Jasper and Cole. Two very, truly, extremely flawed characters who made up for it in other ways. Jasper had my heart bleeding. The “love” he accepted from Daniel because he didn’t think he deserved the love Cole had from him really did a number on my emotions. And Cole just would do anything for him, to the detriment of his own feelings. They both had me tearing up.
Leland and Sofia were phenomenal side characters, I loved the depth they added to this story. Jasper needed a friend like Sofia to give him unconditional love and support through whatever, and also to kick his ass when he needed it. Leland was just such a great friend, and God, I was so excited to see he’s the main character of the next book. I am always down for a best friend’s dad trope.
Daniel… The entire story with him was pretty predictable. I did like the tiny snippets of his POV, but when his master plan was revealed, I just kind of was like, duh. Cole got some good final words in at the end though, which I was here for.
The spice was… Well, it’s C.P. Harris so it was over the top and fucking gross, but I was living for it. The codependency that also showed in their sex life was hot. Sometimes it seemed like Cole would literally die if he was not touching Jasper in the most obscene ways, and good for him.
Overall, unhinged codependent step-brothers with mommy and daddy issues will always be a win in my book.
