Silver Nitrate by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

The start of this book is an introduction to the characters and their place in 1993's Mexican film industry. This part of the book is really slow, a bit too slow if I'm honest. But then the book takes off and it's so interesting and captivating. I couldn't stop reading. This has compelling characters; a fascinating plot that revolves around Mexican horror films, Nazi occultism, magic, and ghosts; a very strong sense of place and time; and some truly spooky moments. Thematically it does a good job of exploring the history of white supremacy in Mexico.
