House of Pounding Hearts by Olivia Wildenstein
2.0
What a mess of a book. While the first book wasn’t perfect, it was enjoyable. This one was not, I’m not even sure why I finished it because I got so annoyed. The main character of Fallon is one of the most unlikable “heroines” I’ve read in a long time. She is so immature, rude, hypocritical, selfish, and whiny. I don’t know that the male lead character sees in her. But they’re “mates” (yes that trope, it’s everywhere now but at least it wasn’t shoved down the reader’s throats here) so he overlooks every hideous thing about her and sees perfection. I liked him better as a crow. He’s still interesting but he’s lost a little bit of the mystery, and he’s also a bit too controlling for my taste. This book has no plot until about halfway through, some things began to finally happen. There were still too many characters and lands to keep up with, I can’t even picture in my mind the layout of these places and lands. I’m not sure I will continue the series, I only finished and gave two starts bc the plot finally picked up, and I enjoy a lot of the supporting characters. Have to wait a few days and see if it calls to me.
