The theatre where I work as an usher is soon having a production of The Tempest, in its latest French translation. I wanted to refresh my memory before that, having read this play a few years ago. As with MacBeth that I read last year, I can’t say I understood most of it because of the language, but I understood enough to be sad for Caliban and to hate the insta-love between Miranda and Ferdinand. I still really enjoy the character of Ariel, though, that hasn’t changed, and I’m really looking forward to seeing this play performed on stage (and in French !).
