I have always loved this book. I first read it when I was probably 11 or 12 years old, and I remember looking up to Vicky, and wanting to be like her when I was 16. I’ve never been much of a poet, but I remember wanting to become one, because that’s what Vicky is, and I wanted to be more like her. It’s been a reread for me many times during my adolescence. The other day I dreamt of this book, and decided it was time to read it again. I’m in my 30’s and this book still touches me with its earnestness. It’s largely a science-fantasy(?) about telepathically communicating with dolphins… may sound silly, but the writing is beautiful, and the story is surprisingly deep.
Graphic: Cancer and Child death
Moderate: Animal death
Minor: Suicide attempt
