I love stories where eccentric, unreliable narrators are the centre of the plot. In Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead, Janina (she doesn't consider this to be her real name), lives alone and takes walks around her area to see if everything's in order. She teaches English in a school in the nearby town, is a passionate advocate for animals, and is obsessed with Astrology. Although, nobody knows if she's any good!

It took me some time to get into the story because this 266-pager wasn't anything like I am used to. And I'm still wondering whether I liked it or not. At times, it feels like certain parts of this story were simply my hallucinations.

During the course of this story, Janina gets embroiled in a murder investigation. There's a side thriller plot going on as well. It's peppered with a good amount of dark wit and makes the reader think about some serious issues as well. As the genre of this book is quite different from what I usually read, I still can't put a finger on what turned me off, or what o failed to understand.

No doubt it's a great piece of literature with an equally remarkable translation, it somehow didn't make a mark on me.
If you're into stories surrounding eccentric middle-age women and eco-thrillers, do give it a read!
