This book was amazing! This book can be disturbing at times in the descriptions of abuse but it equals to a portrait of what life for a woman can be like in a different culture. The book centers around Isra in the 1990's and her daughter Deya in 2008. Sometimes there is a third voice thrown in but that comes later. It is a story of culture, progress & a call for change. It is hard to believe this is a debut novel as it is written so well and I look forward to more works by Etaf Rum in the future.
