Cringing and heart racing, reading this book felt like reading a psychological thriller. You know a jump-scare is coming but you don’t know exactly what it will look like.

Jane is a novelist stuck in her life. Yes, she has married her soulmate and yes she loves her kids; but she’s hit a dead-end with her job and her latest novel, which has taken her ten years to write, isn’t getting the reception she had hoped for. On a whim, she pivots to Hollywood and experiences firsthand what a unique and exploitative place it can be. Add to all of this thick layers of racial identity and problematic opinions from surprising sources and whew—you’ve got yourself one heck of a novel. Meta, messy, wild and, dare I say, a little fun?
