Thank you to VB Lacey & BookFunnel for this ARC!
Magic, trials, no spice, strong FMC + strong ensemble female characters, & found family.
I won’t lie, I found the first half a little slow. I personally would have preferred to not get the prologue and go into things as blind as the FMC, especially considering she gets a lore dump not too long into the book that gives the same info.
Other than that, this was a cool world and interesting magic system. The ensemble characters were good editions and I enjoyed the trials (esp the last one). The last 1/3 was a total page-turner, unputdownable. I was reading at the nail salon and had to have my nail tech pause so I could click to the next page.
I also liked that the main plot lines are wrapped up well while leaving space for the author to return and explore this world more. Definitely enjoyed this read!
