WHEW!!!! my man john knew what he was doing with this one. it's not as good as looking for alaska, obviously; it's Constructed and Self-Conscious in ways that he didn't really know how to be yet with lfa, and people mocked him for it with this one, but let me be frank with you: john green is a good fucking writer and this is a good fucking book. the half-drowned city and the half-drowned girl; the unlit cigarette perpetually poised between gus's lips and finally tucked in his coffin; the desperate search for the true ending to van houten's book when of course the truth is that there is no ending, there is just this life and the people you live it with. the rising sun, her losing eyes. UGH! call me cheesy, call me lame, but i love this shit. makes me cry.
