Whoa, this play has it in it, let me tell you!
I have to read this for my English class and I totally did not expect something this heavy.
I'm gonna try and sort my thoughts now, so bear with me.
First off, this is the first play I have read in English, so I kind of hoped that it would be good. And thankfully, it was!
The premise sounded very interesting, especially since I have nor yet read many books including Muslim characters, so I was happy to broaden my horizon. However, I was still a bit biased because this was going to be a school reading.
But it did not disappoint in the least!
I'll start with the characters, because they are essentially the heart of this play. I think they were all very unique in their own way, and though we did not have that much time with them, I think one can get a really good picture of them while reading this play. The very diverse cast was also great and making the central conflict involving a great and diverse cast is very interesting.
The plot itself was kind of hard to follow in my opinion, because everything happened so fast. Still, I think I got it in the end. And though the plot is a very important part to talk about, I do not think it is my place to do that as a Caucasian European. However, it did show me the hardships many Muslim people face in a white supremacist society and how it affects them, especially in everyday interactions.
I can only recommend this, but I think it is not for the faint of heart, so be cautious of that. It is a very educational play and I think more people should actually read this.
