9/10. this was an amazing fantasy book packed with so many different tropes, iconic scenes, and memorable aspects from the books i grew up reading. the slow burn of this book is immaculately done & the ending, absolutely brutal. after getting through the tedious world building at the start of the book the action quickly took over and made it so hard to put down. i really really enjoyed the characters in this book (and the impressive writing of the characters i absolutely despised), im so glad i don’t have to wait forever to read the second book!
