The Flight by Julie Clark

3.0

I don't tend to enjoy first person POVs but I didn't mind it so much with this book. I found the story of Claire fairly compelling and wanted to know what would happen. I did not enjoy the story of Eva. I found her a bit whiny and a little bit naive for all her manipulation. I just found her unlikeable but not in a visceral love-to-hate way but in a boring, you're just a bit of a dick, kinda way.

I guessed quite a lot of the plot but the role of Danielle did surprise me so I enjoyed that. I thought the beginning and the end of the book were fairly compelling and I was engaged but it fizzled out in the middle. When I think back, nothing actually happens in the middle. I don't want to read about someone going to work and eating unsuitable dinner foods. Also what was with the Diet Coke?! Never has a carbonated beverage played such a central role in a book, kind of like it was part of her personality and not just a fizzy drink.

If you enjoy this kind of book then I think you'll like it. I need more stuff to happen, personally, before I can give it a higher score.
