The Rural Diaries: Love, Livestock, and Big Life Lessons Down on Mischief Farm by Hilarie Burton Morgan
5.0
One Tree Hill was one of my absolute favorite shows as a teen and young adult and I've been impressed with what the three main leading ladies have done with their lives and influence since then. When the Me Too movement exploded a couple years ago and they joined many other women from the show to denounce its creator and his sexual harassment, it broke my heart that something so meaningful for so many fans was a harmful and even traumatic experience for so many who worked there. It made me even more interested in their stories in general, so when Hilarie Burton Morgan released a book, I wanted to read it. I really enjoyed learning more about her life pre and post OTH, especially now as she and her family have created a life away from Hollywood. Did you know they live on a farm with a strange array of animals, as well as owning a nearby candy shop with Paul & Julie Rudd and some other friends of theirs? I didn't! Her writing is so personal yet welcoming, and I read most of the book in one sitting. I also cried full tears multiple times because I could feel her heartbreak through her words when she described moments of loss and grief. Dispersed throughout the book are family recipes and pages of color photos tied to the stories she tells. She is apparently working on a second book so I am excited to see what that one is about when it is released!
Still so good as a reread, possibly even better with her reading it to me. I knew I'd forgotten some things so I wanted to read it again before her new one comes out this fall. Still recommend!
