Make the Season Bright by Ashley Herring Blake

3.0

TLDR: not the best not the worst. i had higher hopes

I loooved this author’s Delilah Green Doesn’t Care and the spin off books. The characters felt balanced, nuanced, likable, interesting, and the writing was good… My first thought was that it felt like a third or fourth draft, not a final, polished, publishable manuscript.

I didn’t hate the plot and I didn’t dislike the characters. But the development fell short. Some things felt repetitive and the writing felt a little like something chat GPT could write.

It wasn’t bad, it just didn’t feel like her normal work. If I had never read her previous series, I might have liked it more. I just know the author’s storytelling and craft is better than this.
