I believe I came across this book via TikTok and decided to give it a go when I saw my library had it in stock. It was your classic romcom and it was funny in parts but overall it just felt like a bit of a slog to get through unfortunately.
The concept was good behind their meet-cute and I liked Bear’s family dynamics, with some explorations of trauma, but otherwise it seemed to miss the mark for me, especially compared to other romance books I’ve read recently.
Firstly, and this isn’t just a criticism of this book but more the genre as a whole, but the names! Why can’t a romance book ever just use something more normal than Fawn or Bear or Trixie. And the cringey phrases from page 1, with the author trying to avoid swearing in the most cringey way. When we started with “hiccuping hippos”, I knew it was going downhill 😅. I understand that this was part of Trixie’s character, but I really didn’t like how it was done.
I also felt that the main problem just felt way too over exaggerated, and the fact that it kept being a problem after they’d agreed they liked each other, AND kissed and slept with each other felt incredibly unnecessary to me. It made it seem like the characters were just a bit one dimensional, despite the efforts made by the author to avoid this.

Overall, not for me but I can see some people enjoying it!
