I started this book with little to no expectations, just a curiosity to see what the third Brontë sister's work is like. I hardly knew what it was about, and I went in with a fresh slate.
From the start, I was immediately pulled in by Agnes. Herself and her family reminded me a lot of myself and my own family, and I quickly grew comfortable with her. I also learned that Anne was incredibly talented in making you feel attached to the characters; consuming their emotions as if they were your own.
One huge thing that became the theme of the book was the last thing I expected: romance. And it was this theme that made me love this book as fiercely as I do now. It was built slowly but every interaction was filled with so much hidden desires and passion, and you could see the two struggle through their shyness and awkwardness, but each making the other happy. I was completely invested and I didn't want the book to ever end, especially the scenes between the two characters.
I had a wonderful time getting to know both Agnes and Anne, and I am proud to call myself a fan. This was the first 5 star book I've read this year and I couldn't be happier that this book was the chosen one. Anne's gentle penmanship was incredible. It had the perfect balance of emotions, description, and storytelling. I enjoyed this book thoroughly, as it was entertaining and rarely made me feel bored.
