Faux Queen: A Life in Drag by Monique Jenkinson
5.0
I adore this book and I adore Fauxnique/Monique. If you ever have a chance to see her perform, GO. As her book so beautifully illustrates, she is passionate on all levels about her art and expression. She details all her influences and challenges and experiences throughout the book, while at the same time, giving us all a brilliant history of Drag Culture in the Bay Area (and beyond) beginning in the 1990's. This is no small feat, and she does it with humility, joy, and fantastic storytelling. This book is so needed in a world that rarely sees or understands that drag is for EVERYONE, regardless of where you are on the gender binary, including far beyond it. I am so grateful for the life and work and art of Monique and I am so excited to see what is to come.
