A Drink Before the War by Dennis Lehane

4.0

This is about as hard-boiled as one could want. It has the veneer of the old school noir, but it’s really a contemporary story—race, politics, city streets as dark as a starless sea, lawyers, guns, money, revenge, hard men, and even a tough dame with a heart of gold. The hard-boiled prose was a little over the top at times, but it’s a darn good novel.
