Brief an den Vater by Franz Kafka

challenging emotional informative reflective slow-paced

4.0

I saw this book a couple of weeks ago on tiktok, but sadly I don't know in what context anymore. The main reason I wanted to read the book is because after all I’ve heard we have very similar fathers. And the book didn't disappoint.
I think it's interesting that Franz Kafka was afraid of his father what he makes clear in the beginning, and it's also mentioned in passing in other passages of the book. And after reading this I'm so glad, that i was able to cut ties with mine and was not afraid of him.
It isn't super simple to read, it was written almost a hundred years ago, and it shows in the writing style. So if you aren't already used to read classics it could be a challenge, but it's a very short book, and its worth to try reading it.
If you have toxic parents or are a parent and your children are no contact with you, you absolutely should read it. because it's now as relevant as it was a hundred years ago. And maybe helps a child find closure or a parent to find a way to finally work on them self so the hurt no one else.
It an important work of literature.
