This was a decently enjoyable book, one I picked up on a whim to have on in the background. The story and its characters were well fleshed out and entertaining to follow, but I didn't find myself getting as emotionally invested in their lives as I have for other YA-insta-love stories. (Although, I will say Poe's death killed me a bit inside.)
I also want to mention that for a book published in 2018, it did feel weirdly relevant to the pandemic lifestyle, not only through its smaller details (i.e. the main characters having to wear masks, stay six feet apart, etc.) but also its larger themes of isolation and what their illness has taken away from them. Maybe I would have enjoyed this book a bit more if I read it in a pre-pandemic time, but having read this in 2021, I couldn't bring myself to empathize with characters who disregarded important medical advice because they were "in love."

Graphic: Terminal illness
Moderate: Death
