Hunting Prince Dracula by Kerri Maniscalco

3.5/4 ⭐️

I think Im the only one who adored book one and kinda disliked book two.
So let’s see.

CHARACTERS: they were overall fine.
Audrey Rose is better in this book, more independent but very very naive but I guess it’s for the plot. She didn’t get that the book found in the house was the same the guard was looking for, really girl? Also, she was deeply naive with Thomas. I don’t know if it is just me BUT those two make no sense, maybe because I highly dislike Thomas. Every time he did something she always justified him: that’s not okay girl! He makes you uncomfortable? That’s not a good thing!
Thomas here was unbearable for me, I just can’t stand him. He’s very intelligent but he is also too much arrogant, proud and apathetic. HE PRETENDED TO BE DEAD GUYS. That’s not okay! He’s insensible and he’s not a good match for her.
The last two chapters killed me, too much romance but we’ll deal with that later.
Anastasia was SO GOOD! She was my suspect at the beginning but I fell for the “she’s the girl who died” even if before I though the body was of the peasant girl. She was such a psycho and was so well constructed but the author made her die very quickly and a little bit bad: she deserved a better exit.
Daciana - Ileana were kinda cute. Not the biggest fan of them as characters.

PLOT: the whole story of Prince Dracula or vampires and mystical creatures was so good. I loved vampires since childhood and I wanted to see the scientific explanation for these deaths. However the prose was slow and boring since the author decided to focused more on the various romance (i’ll talk about it in the next paragraph) and that wasn’t okay for me. Since the first book was very dynamic this happened to be very boring. I actually enjoyed a lot the last part, the discovering of the killer and the whole bloodline part. It was also very interesting the Romanian history and language used in the book. The last chapters and the epilogue, however were boring for the romantic side but interesting for what we found out: the guy in the train was Ileana’s brother and the returning of the Uncle. I have to say I though they were going to America with Liza because she said she flirted with an american magician, who knows?

ROMANCE: SO BORING!
Many people tend to tell me that I’m bored by romance since I’m aromatic and asexual but I don’t think that’s true. There are so many books were the main aim is romance that I actually enjoyed (like the Adam Silvera’s book or When Dimple met Rishi or Alex & Eliza, may I go on?) but here was not for me.
I get that Audrey Rose and Thomas are the correspondent of Sherlock and Watson ant that everyone ships Johnlock (I don’t!) but that doesn’t mean EVERY. PAIR. MUST. BE. A. LOVE. STORY.
Why can’t they just be crime partners? Or if not why their romance or kiss be in the last book?
HE ASKED FOR HER HAND, I don’t get that, I’m sorry. It was annoying when they were flirting.
Ileana and Daciana were a shock at the beginning but I didn’t liked them: I didn’t understood the “so much love” Audrey Rose perceived because there was no chemistry in my opinion. That’s good that there is a lesbian couple (also because in book like this there are mainly fat couples) but I didn’t see the spark, sorry.

Overall was not a bad book, I just preferred the first more. Can’t wait for the third!

My suspects through out the book were:

Prince Nicolae: simply because of the title; he wanted people to call him prince and the title was “prince dracula” (now in italian is Count Dracula most of the time, so for me was sneaky)

The Headmaster: he was an asshole, why not killing his own students?

Radu: he reminded me of professor Quirrel from Harry Potter so I though “well Quirrel was the bad guy so he might be too!”. I’m weird I know.

Anastasia: She was too kind but then she “died”.
