Mary Poppins Comes Back by P.L. Travers

3.0

I'm still finding it a little difficult to reconcile myself with such a thoroughly unpleasant Mary Poppins. The thing that bothers me most about Mary, more so even than her general grumpy demeanour and excessive vanity, is the fact that she insists the children are lying when they recollect their adventures. I wouldn't mind so much if she protested with a bit of a wink, just to remind the children that their adventures are a secret, but the way she gets horribly angry and insists that they are lying and slandering her I find quite upsetting.

I think I would enjoy these books much more if I didn't have the Julie Andrews/Disney version stuck in my head. However, putting that aside as much as I possibly can, I really am enjoying these books.
