At first, I didn't realize this was non-fiction. If this was a fiction book I would have loved a more consistent flow of letters and plot. However the gaps make 100% sense now I know these are non-fiction, I imagine tracking down all sides of this correspondence was quite difficult, and obviously, some letters were lost along the way. I love reading letters, so to have a whole book full of the back and forth was amazing. Very wholesome and sweet. I love the idea of the friendship developed over time with people who had never actually met. However, I am exceptionally jealous of Ms. Hanff's book collection and wondering if 84 Charing Cross Road still exists.
My edition also included the Sequal The Dutchess of Bloomsbury - the diary entries of Ms. Hannff's visit to London, snips of her touristy adventures but again written in the same fictional style as above it was nice to get a bit more, it also offered a deeper understanding to her personality, thoughts and feelings which was very interesting.
