Isha, Unscripted by Sajni Patel
1.0
For a while, Nadine held the not so distinguished honor of picking the worst book we've read in book club. However, with Isha, Unscripted, Marwah has freed Nadine of that title. This is officially the worst book we've ever read in book club.
In Marwah's defense, she thought this was a YA book originally and one that would feature much more Matthew McConaughey than it ended up having. Matthew McConaughey, though he is part of the summary on the back of this book, plays literally no role in the story. So, in essence, we were hoodwinked by the description. There's a version of this book that might work if it was YA. A teenage girl chasing down a celebrity to read her screenplay feels more plausible than a woman in her late 20s doing so. I could not believe Isha was doing any of this. Like, babe, why? Also, as a fellow writer, I could not get a handle on what drives her. What films does she like? What inspires her? What does she do other than getting drunk with her cousin?
My friends tried really hard to like this book. I, being both a writer and a hater, did not. We didn't even hypothetically cast the movie adaptation because we agree this should never be a movie. Not recommended!
