As Long as the Lemon Trees Grow by Zoulfa Katouh

5.0

If you don’t know a lot about what is happening and what has happened in Syria, then you need to read this.

This novel follows Salama, who was a pharmacy student prior to the revolution in Syria. Now, she volunteers at a hospital in Homs, has lost both of her parents and her brother, and is fighting to get herself and her pregnant sister-in-law out of her beloved Syria. When she crossed paths with the boy who she was supposed to meet one fateful day, feelings arise that make her question if she could ever truly leave her home.

This story is incredible. Salama has got to be one of the strongest and bravest protagonists that I have ever had the pleasure of reading about. Her humility is also so powerful!

Kenan and Salama’s partnership was SO beautiful. This novel will make you feel every single emotion. It will break your heart, make you laugh, and fill you with a deep sense of hope.

Read this right now.
