Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas
4.0
This is a great series for beginner fantasy and romantic fantasy readers. It’s lowish spice, has plenty of adventure, and great development of characters.
So, the plot of the series is basically there’s a girl Aelin picked by the fates/gods to save the world. One finds out that the gods from other worlds are at odds with the gods (I’ll call them gods or powers) from this world. She defies the powers and gods at every turn until at the end, it seems she may not be able to after all.
I feel like the overall series dragged a bit, but this book was great. It follows a woman who starts off a bit immature, rash, and spoiled and watches as she matures and learns to use her strengths for good, how to trust and rely on others, and how to be a leader while still sharing the power. It also shows her learn how to love.
I checked spoilers because I don’t know how much people want to leave unsaid or not. It’s safer this way.
My method of rating is the following:
⭐️ Something fundamentally is wrong with this book.
⭐️ ⭐️ I dislike this book, but it’s redeemable in some way so maybe someone else will like it.
⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ I like this book. There’s nothing super wrong with it. I enjoyed my experience.
⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ I love this book. I would specifically recommend this to others. It’s well-written, has fully developed characters, and was an immersive experience.
⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ This book has changed me, become part of who I am, and/or I will carry this book in my heart and mind for the rest of my life.
