Felix Ever After by Kacen Callender

3.0

(Rounded from a 3.5)—This story is so important, so necessary for the YA canon, and I can say with confidence that Felix’s emotional journey is going to be a warm blanket, a positive affirmation for a lot of teens. There are sparks of joy and fits of anger that are genuine and moving. But the prose, for me, fell—the dialogue was often too precise even in moments of anger, often unrealistic if not clinical; characters felt flat and incomplete. These 2 facets in conjunction made it feel like a rushed and incomplete draft.
