What a delightful little read. This book is a “memoir” of a scholar, who is reflecting on her life and the introduction she had into her love and obsession for her field of study—dragons.
I was really obsessed with what this book did—the idea of a scholarly memoir, but the subject being a fantasy creature? Brilliant idea for a novel. I love fantasy, and I have always wished I read more “smart” books—this was a wonderful mishmash of the two. The scholarly tone, combined with the genuinely interesting and well-done story of Isabella (and her husband) fostering her passion made this book hard put down. It’s the perfect compromise book for me to read, as someone who can’t seem to get into books with no fantasy element, but who also wants to seem smarter. I love this, and want to read a million more books like it.
