This book was weird in the best and loudest way. Jemisin really made the sentient cities and their avatars work wonderfully. If you struggle with highly conceptual visual descriptions, maybe skip this book because it is chock full of them. But that doesn't bother me and I had a really great time with this book. It's just so vibrant and the love for NYC is tangible in every word on the page. I'm not giving it five stars because I found myself wanting some more low-key character interactions I guess. The whole plot was high intensity for almost the entire book and I think a little bit more chill time would have been nice just for everyone to take a breather. But I had a really great time with this read, and the audiobook was also fantastic.
