Mary: An Awakening of Terror by Nat Cassidy

5.0

5/5 — i love unhinged women and men getting what they deserve <3

i finished this book in two days and oh my goddddd. i have so much to say! (1) i couldn’t believe this book was written by a man because of the thematic depth and how intricately it portrayed the essence of womanhood. like it was so raw and somewhat painful but also beautiful??? how are you as a man doing that??? (2) i loooooove when men get what they deserve. especially when it’s in a horror setting! and especially when women are getting revenge!!!!! (3) i thought the writing style would bug me, but it didn’t. i think it worked and wasn’t trying too hard with overly “pretty” language. there were def some parts where i was like mehhh, but overall good! (4) any predictability the plot had was quickly remedied by the narration. even though i had a good idea of what was going to happen, it kept me guessing and even surprised me. and i was never bored!

minor complaints:
(1) the ghost stuff wasn’t as enthralling to me as the other aspects of the book
(2) i want to gatekeep the awakening bc it’s my favorite book

praises:
(1) how it demonstrates the nature of womanhood
(2) it’s FUN (like horror gore fun) (it’s not realistic but that’s why it’s fun)
(3) i just love unhinged women getting revenge <3

EDIT: originally gave it a 4.9/5, but i literally could not stop thinking about it so i decided to bestow 5 stars upon it
