Something about this book really Got Me, and that kind of took me by surprise. I think it was the striking portrayal of Effy's anxiety and trauma. It felt real and raw and painful to experience and was definitely the strongest part of the book. The atmosphere was sooo soppy in a miserable gothic way that was super fitting. I think this book would have been even stronger if it was adult instead of YA so it could really Go There, but it's still very enjoyable. But I just really loved the commitment to making water and the ocean a metaphor for literally everything.
